Diesel & Motor Engineering PLC was founded in 1939. Before the launch of Diesel and Motor Engineering (DIMO), Pandithage Don Alexander, Stephen Peiris, Harold Algama and Cyril Algama – the founders of DIMO were working for Heller & Company. The Company began operations in a very small way with a staff of 29. Initially business was only in automobile sales and repairs. Initially business was only in automobile sales and repairs. The Company has since grown in size as well as in scope of activities, presently with a workforce of over 1500. DIMO is synonymous as a public company who acts responsibly towards the community and the environment. From a company known for vehicles DIMO today has diversified into many areas. Medical engineering, telecommunication, power engineering, material handling, storage solutions, power tools, agricultural equipment, lighting solutions, power systems, refrigeration are some of the areas in to which DIMO has entered during the past few decades. The Company has a record of 75 years’ experience in the automobile and engineering industry and over the years has made a major contribution towards the development of automobile transportation in Sri Lanka. DIMO is probably the oldest general distributor for Mercedes-Benz Passenger and Commercial Vehicles, in the Asian region. DIMO is involved in a number of related fields and represents many prestigious principals - Mercedes-Benz, Jeep, Siemens, Chrysler, TATA, MTU, Bosch, Komatsu, Michelin, Osram, MTU, BF Goodrich, MRF and Mahindra to name a few.
