Gulf Investment Corporation was established in 1983 by the six members of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates. Its aim to support economic growth by investing in projects and ventures in the GCC region and in developing investment products appropriate in regional capital markets. GIC supports the development of private enterprise in the region by providing financial advisory services to privatisation and restricting efforts. The strength of GIC's capitalization and shareholders structure makes it one of the most prominent financial institutions in the region.
