The King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau (KADDB) is an agency of the Jordanian Government tasked with the design, development and transition to manufacture of prototype military and civilian equipments. KADDB was established officially by Royal Decree on 24th August 1999 and operates as an independent military organization within the Jordan Armed Forces (JAF), with the KADDB Steering Committee reporting directly to His Majesty King Abdullah II. KADDBB's mission is to create the conditions for the establishment of an independent, sustainable defence industrial base within Jordan. The long-term goal is to develop an indigenous, self-sufficient and commercially viable research and development facility for the design and manufacture within Jordan of defence and commercial equipments and services for both the JAF and for the civilian and military export markets elsewhere in the Middle East. The establishment of the KADDB represents a move from within Jordan to structure and formalize the early prototyping activities which, previously, had been conducted by the JAF at the King Hussein Main Workshops (KHMW). The scope of work now covers the full spectrum of research, design and development, starting with the user requirement and threat analysis, through concept design and definition, to the identification and acquisition of enabling technologies. This process is then followed by prototyping, trials and evaluation, product optimization and, finally, on to industrialization through the preparation of manufacturing data packs.
