Tasnee Mother Company was established in the year 1985 as the first joint stock industrial company completely owned by private sector. It was started out of total conviction that the industrial option is considered as one of the best available options for the diversification of the economic base, and the pushing of comprehensive development wheel in the kingdom. One of the most important tasks of the company is the establishment, management, operation and ownership of petrochemicals and chemical industrial projects, and marketing of the products and carrying out all associated works, the company also established and participated in numerous other successful companies such as plastic, engineering, metallic and industrial services projects. One of the largest projects established by the company is the national petrochemical industrialization complex, which is located in Jubil industrial city. This complex consists of two gigantic projects, which are: Saudi Polyolefin Company SPC: The project consists of two integrated plants; the propylene plant and polypropylene plant, with an annual production capacity 455000 tons of propylene, and 450000 tons of polypropylene. Tasnee owns 75% of its capital, whereas, Basell international company owns the remaining 25%. The production in this project started in early 2004. The expansion project is 270000 tons of polypropylene annually to increase the total annual capacity of this plant to 720000 tons. The project shall become the largest complex for the production of polypropylene in the world. Saudi Ethylene and Poly-Ethylene Company: The project consists of two integrated complexes; the ethylene and polyethylene and their derivatives complexes. It will produce one million tons of ethylene, 285000 tons of propylene, 400000 tons of HDPE and 400000 tons of LDPE annually. The total cost is SR 9.5 billions. This amount shall be invested jointly by Tasnee, Sahara Petrochemicals Company and Basell international company.
