Background



UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
Reporting to the Administrative Associate, Messenger shall perform duties of messenger service support to the UN Women Regional Office for Arab States, ensuring the highest standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility, and excellent knowledge of operations, protocol, and security issues. The Messenger shall also demonstrate a client-oriented approach, courtesy, confidentiality, tact, and ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Administrative Associate, the Messenger shall provide physical operations services as a member of the operations team to UN Women Regional Office for the Arab States.

Duties and Responsibilities



Incoming/Outgoing correspondence and packages:



Collection and delivery of mail and other materials as required from and to the post office, government agencies, and other institutions; Sorting, delivery, and pick up of mail from various offices on the premises at regular intervals. Maintenance of records as required; Packaging/packing of material received for dispatch; labeling, inserting material in envelopes and franking outgoing mail; Supports project teams in preparing meeting packages (photocopying material, preparing folders for participants, etc.).

Provides efficient messenger services focusing on the achievement of the following results:



Assist in the loading, unloading, and movement of furniture, equipment, and cargo office supplies; Perform a Variety of unskilled tasks as a helper and messenger; Remain flexible and work additional hours when required; Monitors the inventory of water bottles, places orders when required, and ensures distribution of the bottles to every floor.

Provides efficient organization and cleaning services:



Keeping clean the offices, kitchen, corridors, toilets, workshop venue, and the office environment at all times; Paying attention and ensuring hygienic standards of sanitary facilities at all times; Keeps office room floors, surfaces, furniture, walls, doors, windows, and carpets clean and hygienic; Clean the toilets and put in the toilets the toilet rolls, soaps, washing liquid, and towels when required; Report on the stock status of toilet rolls, soaps, washing liquid, etc.; Maintaining the organization of paper, documents, and clean desks and offices; Supporting office hospitality in the presence of guests; Maintaining cleanliness of the entrance and all UN Women floors.

The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organisation.

Required Skills and Experience



Education and Certification:



Completion of secondary education is required.

Experience



At least 2 years of work experience as a messenger is desirable; Previous experience in sorting, filing, and organizing large amounts of documents is required; Experience in work for UN or other international organization/company is desirable.

Languages



Fluency in Arabic is required; Working knowledge of oral and written English language is desirable.
