Opportunity We will prioritize applications received before Feb 15, 2024. IRAP Jordan seeks to sponsor law students who are participating in a formal law school program to intern at IRAP for a 10-week period from June until August 2024. The legal intern will be supervised by members of our legal team for case-related matters and by a Volunteer Program Manager for logistical preparation and administrative follow-up within the IRAP Jordan office. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals interested in refugee, immigration, and international law, who seek direct experience with displaced people.
Responsibilities
Conducting screening and intake interviews with at-risk and vulnerable displaced people and identifying applicant needs for direct services and relevant referrals;
Conducting factual and legal research in support of direct representation;
Drafting memos or application processes for protection or family reunification cases that may be submitted to receiving governments or UNHCR;
Supporting outreach to isolated communities and participating in public education efforts;
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; pursuing an advanced degree in law, with one year of law school completed, is preferred;
Strong research, writing, and analytical skills;
Fluency in oral and written English required; fluency in Arabic preferred;
Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
Sensitivity to client empowerment and to working with clients of all backgrounds, including LGBTI clients, survivors of trauma, and other vulnerable populations;
Initiative to see projects through and ability to multitask;
Strong interest in refugee processing, immigration law, and human rights;
Ability to commit to a minimum of 24 hours per week.
