Switching is more important than routing as it is more common and used. Routing is required for ISPs and companies have multiple branches.

i think both are improtant, but sometimes you can dispense with alrouting as in small networks and may also can dispense with alswitching when running only on networks running on third layer which is " layer network"

 as the switching devices  does not require programming over  devices routing and the switch device available commonly used, in addition to being a port distribution over router device
