Because increasing voltages result in decrease of current... when current is reduced it mean you need a conductor having less cross sectional area that reduces the cost of conductor. Furthermore you also need less supporting structure due to decline in the conductor material. By using HV transmission the transmission capacity can also be increased, it also improve the voltage regulation because Transmission line drop reduces that  bring voltage regulation  into a more desirable or excellent condition.

Because at high voltage the current is lower, for a given amount of power, therefore the wires used can be thinner. This means that less copper or aluminium has to be used, and if the power is transmitted on overhead power lines, the support towers can be lighter and less expensive

By increasing the voltage we reduce the corresponding current flows and thus reduce the copper losses [I (square) R losses] and also the reduced heat losses due to lower currents and thus these reduced power losses converts into the economy.

Reduced current levels caused by high voltage transmissions benefits the reduced conductor sizes (as the current decides the size of the conductor as both are in direct proportionality to each other and to the cost as well)

Yes it is economical...........................

By stepping up the voltage current is decreased as the input power is equal to the output power in a transformer......................so, the decrease in current has the following advantages.....

1. Copper loss decreases as copper loss depend on current and resistance.

2. line drop decreases....................

3.For comparatively low current less volume of conductor is required, hence reduce the cost of conductor material....................

4. Due to low current less insulation is required.........

5. Comparatively small poles and transmission towers are required..........

                                                                                                 Thanks

heat loss in the line is current squared * Resistance

To reduce heat loss, you need to trasmitt the power as reduced current and higher voltage

In transmission line, if we transmit power at low voltage, the current corresponding to the power is high. so I2R (I * I * R) loss will be more depends upon the conductor used. So Power receiving at other end will be reduced due to this loss. So we are going for high voltage for transmission of electrical power. If we increase the voltage, the current will be reduced to the corresponding power. In India we are transmitting power at765 KV voltage level.

As we know simple formula P=VI, as voltage increases current decrease, So the line losses during transmission decreases which makes it to pssible to carry more power and to more distant places as well. So it is best practice used yet.
