Top Management in a company is really important to an organization.

The top management team of a company controls strategies and decision making that affects everyone from the president down to entry-level employees. Those decisions, along with the way the management members treat the staff, affect the success of the company. Understanding those effects helps the management team make changes as necessary to improve the achievement of the company.

The goals and vision of the company guide the work that is completed by the employees. Top management is usually responsible for establishing these goals.

A company's financial decisions typically come from the top level of management.

The top management of a company leads by example and affects the motivation felt by the employees. A management team that takes a sincere interest and connects with the staff is more likely to inspire the employees to achieve.

Top-level managers, or top managers, are also called senior management or executives. These individuals are at the top one or two levels in an organization, and hold titles such as: Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Chief Operational Officer (COO), Chief Information Officer (CIO), Chairperson of the Board, President, Vice president, Corporate head.

Often, a set of these managers will constitute the top management team, which is composed of the CEO, the COO, and other department heads. Top-level managers make decisions affecting the entirety of the firm. Top managers do not direct the day-to-day activities of the firm; rather, they set goals for the organization and direct the company to achieve them. Top managers are ultimately responsible for the performance of the organization, and often, these managers have very visible jobs Top managers in most organizations have a great deal of managerial experience and have moved up through the ranks of management within the company or in another firm. An exception to this is a top manager who is also an entrepreneur; such an individual may start a small company and manage it until it grows enough to support several levels of management. Leadership, if developed in a comprehensive way, endures. Long term business performance comes from management culture and careful and continuous development of managers at all levels. High-Performing organizations directly link leadership/management strategy to business strategy.

Managers and top managers are very important for organizations because a manager plays very significant role in planning and making decisions of the company. Managers control and monitor the employees and in the current era managers also facilitate the work of the employees. Managers are also responsible for the allocation of the resources available to the organization like allocation of the work force, financial resources and material resources etc. Managers also set the short term goals of the company and they also facilitate the top executive committee in making long term decisions about the company. For ensuring that employee are moving in the right directions for attaining goals, managers keep checking their work. Hence, managers play a very important role in the organizations.

As your brain is important to your body similarly top managers act like a brain. They can sail the organization smooth, keep the team motivated, simply they can make or break.

Top-level management

The top consists of the board of directors (including non-executive directors and executive directors), president, vice-president, CEOs and other members of the C-level executives. They are responsible for controlling and overseeing the entire organization. They set a tone at the top and develop strategic plans, company policies, and make decisions on the direction of the business. In addition, top-level managers play a significant role in the mobilization of outside resources and are accountable to the shareholders and general public.

The board of directors is typically primarily composed of non-executives which owe a fiduciary duty to shareholders and are not closely involved in the day-to-day activities of the organization, although this varies depending on the type (e.g., public versus private), size and culture of the organization. These directors are theoretically liable for breaches of that duty and typically insured under directors and officers liability insurance. The board sets corporate strategy, makes major decisions such as major acquisitions and hires, evaluates, and fires the top-level manager (Chief Executive Officer or CEO) and the CEO typically hires other positions. However, board involvement in the hiring of other positions such as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) has increased. The board may also have certain employees (e.g., internal auditors) report to them or directly hire independent contractors; for example, the board (through the audit committee) typically selects the auditor.

Helpful skills of top management vary by the type of organization but typically include a broad understanding competition, world economies, and politics. In addition, the CEO is responsible for executing and determining (within the board's framework) the broad policies of the organization. Executive management accomplishes the day-to-day details, including: instructions for preparation of department budgets, procedures, schedules; appointment of middle level executives such as department managers; coordination of departments; media and governmental relations; and shareholder communication.
