I concur with most of you to some degree. As I read your answers, some seem to be based on personal experience.

 

To some degree leadership is a trait learned and in some cases is developed over time by the natural process of learning by experience and the application of those "good" traits learned.

 

However, I believe that after all is said, learned, applied, and effected...character is what defines the good leader (he/she) as he exerts his leadership through the multiple scenarios he/she may encountered in life.

 

It is character that despite the "fog of uncertainty" as a leader makes a decision that defines the person and his actions. Against all odds, a leader with character will not deviate from what's the right thing to do, what's the best possible decision for the team - company, despite the internal pressures of every day life; making the projected numbers, taking or asking for the usual bribe on a contract and all the other bad decision a bad leader can make. 

 

Judge a person not by who he is, the place he comes from, how he/she looks, speech, schooling, etc., but by his character.

1. Does not trust his own followers2. No empathy3. Looks for his own interest first.4. Cannot keep his team together. Actually there is no terrible leader. If these traits are there is a person. He/ she is a dictator not a leader.

Some excellent feedback provided here but the answer isn't always that black and white.

There is no such thing as a perfect leader, a good leader however is one that recognizes the personality traits of employees and adjusts his approach to suit that particular person.

Based on the leadership classification, most people can be placed into one of the following categories:

  • Red - These are often people who can be aggressive in their approach, used to fast paced changes and often leaders of their field. This trait however has the knack of ignoring others around them and having tunnel vision. When you want something out of people who fall in this category, be to the point, present facts, avoid minute details and present the results. Don't linger in long unnecessary discussion.
  • Green - These are analytical people in the truest sense of the word. They sit, listen and analyse before making an informed decision. They more often then not sit relatively quietly in meetings, once they have chewed through the information they will then speak and it's wise to listen. With this type of personality you need to present information in a detailed way, show that the necessary steps have been taken and that the work is organised in a good manner. They are sticklers for detail.
  • Yellow - Very laid back trait. They are often very vocal and sociable, imaginative and creative. When communicating with them, try and socialize initially creating a good rapport so you can. Try nurturing their ideas while also presenting yours in the same way.
  • Blue - Nurturing trait. They are usually quite emotional, can get offended easily are very focused on the emotional aspect of the role and company. When coming across someone like this, be friendly, approachable, show empathy. Provide and explanation of what you need from them without necessarily pressuring them.

Of course even with this, each one of us can possess one or more of the above, it's however important to realize which category we fall into more. Failing to adjust the style of management depending on the audience is a critical failure for any manager.

If He is terrible how he could be a leader?????????In my opinion,  terrible leader can only make good or bad strategy but does not have potential to apply practically!!!!
