In your opinion what's the most important connection between a leader and the followers?

Effect, Respect, Trust, Believe & Support 

Leadership is a very vast subject that can be explained generically and specifically. Since you did not specify any situation I believe a clear and concise communication between the leader and the follower about the ultimate destination, and the benchmarks is very important. We can translate this into a corporate culture in terms of communicating the organizational goals and objective is of the same importance.

The effects of transformational leadership on the in‐role performance of followers were mediated by empowerment and trust in the leader.

In my humble opinion those who said

Trust

got the magic answer.

Trust, respect and of course mutual appreciation which is a result of the first two points. Friendship in business could often be a problem. Trust and respect  based on knowledge, skills and show samples is an much better foundation.

The most important thing between leader and followers is the confidence because the confidence generate a friendship also the friendship generate team work and in the end there will be an accomplish to goals company and increase in loyalty between all employees.
