Using Vaiable Speed Drive (Based on VSI topology) with an elecric motor can improve the power factor of the motor drive system from0.95 to unity power factor according to the type of the VFD.

Of course, this is not the main advantage of the VSD but it is one of the benefits that shall be considered to avoid adding extra power factor correction panels in case of motor operating with VSD.
