How expensive is a digital marketing strategy for startups?

Marketing tools and opportunities are more accessible and more affordable than ever for small businesses.

Any business can compete with any competitor regardless of size with a solid digital marketing strategy. Your business can develop its online marketing strategy for very little cost and can potentially replace costly advertising channels such as Yellow Pages, television, radio and magazine.

Basically anything that you capture in your customer journey can be reported on and honed for greater success at the fraction of the cost of traditional marketing.  After all, how annoying is it to get a couple of forms returned from a mailshot.  Digital Marketing enables you to refine your strategy at any point in time and see any improvements or opportunities for further refinement almost instantaneously.

How expensive digital marketing gets is all dependent upon your startup's needs. Most of the time, though, you can get away with spending as little as USD $25 a month on digital marketing. With so many advantages to social media marketing, it's almost pointless to spend money on digital marketing as a startup. Personally, I have only invested so much as $10 per month on digital marketing, but only after I established my presence in social media...for free. I would take social media marketing seriously for a while and push your brand there. Make sure to follow proper social media marketing etiquette and best practices. Ensure that you are pushing out posts at the right times and at the right pace. You have so much going on in social media that you have to be very aware of each platform's guidelines. Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Periscope (a fairly new platform)...each one has guidelines and rules that need to be followed. Should you follow them correctly and create effective style guides for each, you will be able to market yourself without spending any money for at least the first year. Just be consistent!

Should not exceed more than $3,000 for a startup provided that you have a functional dynamic website which has already been built. Any investment more than that in digital marketing can wait till you start seeing the return on your initial investments.
