In regards to the UAE market i am no expert, as a matter of fact, i have had very little interactions with the UAE market. so my below opinion is based on very limited knowledge of the market.

 

My assumption is that the scope for digital marketing is good in the UAE because:

• the population of UAE is about 9.3 million
• age 15-64 years constitutes to about 78% of the population
• GDP -per capital is about $67,000
• about 8.5million internet users - 91% penetration

Now based on only these economic and demographic factors one can assume/conclude that the pool seems healthy for digital marketing business.

from what i hear a lot of people spend long hours traveling to and from work, which could mean that many of these people have limited time to physical in-person do window shopping, compare prices between shops etc. so then how do they gather data?

• word of mouth
• print media - magazines/ newspapers
• outdoor hoarding/ billboards
• TV
• Radio etc to name a few

so now what does the digital mediums intend to do - Replace these means of communication with digital mediums like websites, apps, reviews, social medias, etc. etc.

 

How does UAE try to portray it self? among the many wonderful things - it portrays itself as the commercial hub of the region and the connector/ mediator were east meets west (financially & commercially) and also promotes tourism.  Now to get attract large number of investors and tourist from across the globe it needs to communicate to them.

 

Now based on all the above (lifestyle, economical activities and average disposable income) i would say that digital marketers should already be quite active in UAE. I guess now you need to find out how competitive the digital marketing sphere in the UAE is and how much of the action can you bite into.
