How can I develop my skills to write effectively for academic purposes? Achieve a good standard of written communication skills.
Aim to spell as accurately as possible.
Get into the habit of using a dictionary.
Learn about punctuation and grammar.
Develop 'brainstorming' skills - improve ability to think of ideas and write them down in a clear, concise way.
Learn how to plan and organize essay, project or report work.
Understand what are Introductions, Main bodies and conclusions.
Use new words and practise using them so you become comfortable with using them.
Gain a basic knowledge of computer skills and take steps to improve if possible.
Take advantage of computer courses, especially WORD to help with doing assignments.
Knowledge is power and the more you know about producing a neat, accurately typed piece of work the better.
Develop a questioning mind-set.
Use your initiative when doing research, don't just accept what is being told to you.
Of course listen respectfully.
One person's view is one person's view, find your own view and write your own truth backed up with evidence.
Read, read and read.
The power of reading cannot be underestimated.
Reading different types of materials will help to widen your knowledge, familiarise yourself with different styles of writing and be evidence to use during your academic journey.

To write well, read well. Also never underestimate the power of a good mentor or teacher no matter what your age. Never be embarrassed to be corrected. Practice is important but if there is no correction, practice cannot amount to much. Learn from your peers and always look forward to learn from others.
