Do you feel that male and female teachers are treated as equals more than possibly in other professions?
It's true to some extent. According to my observation in different parts of the world females have an edge over the males in finding a teaching job. Female teachers specially up to primary level are being prefered over the males. In many parts of the world females are prefered on male teachers due to their willingness to teach on lower wages. The other reason is being their work with more devotion and effort.
