A Day In The Life Of: A Physical Therapist

A Day In The Life Of: A Physical Therapist

6:30 am: I am struggling not to let myself shut the alarm in order to wake up and get ready for work.

6:55am: I get out of bed realizing I could run late but still manage to squeeze in my usual morning exercises before preparing breakfast

7:20 am: I’m in the car, having my fruit salad and the construction near my house is a never ending agony.

7:55 am: Thank God I got to work on time. It is actually a cool rule that it’s mandatory to be here at8 when the actual shift starts at9. I try to avoid my colleagues, and hide in my humble office/ clinic to read my book before my day kicks off.

9:00 am: My day has officially started. I head to my ward. I organize my patients and check their files so that I am updated with any changes that might’ve occurred overnight. Small chit chat with doctors and nurses are always welcome to stay abreast of all happenings in the hospital.

12:00 pm: I am done with all my morning patients; time for lunch. I call a couple of coworkers from marketing department and meet up with them in the cafeteria.

1:00 pm: Back to the physiotherapy center to check on updates. Nothing much going on. I get the chance to read a bit more. It’s been the case since beginning of Ramadan. The workload isn’t really heavy.

1:30 pm: To the wards again. I experience a rather unpleasant incident which makes me a bit nervous: a patient of mine, whom I have been consulting for2 months now, fainted while I was trying to help her walk and then experienced strong episodes of shivering arms. Thank God it all went well, but doctors on the floor are still researching the reason behind her sudden trauma. Needless to say, I almost had a heart attack myself!

3:30 pm: Done with my patients; head back to the center to fill in my reports with all relevant updates. I still have some time on my hands. I grab my book and try to unwind a bit and read through it.

4:45 pm: I love Ramadan timings. It’s not5 pm yet and I’m already in my car heading back home. I’m trying to figure out what to do for the rest of the day. I could catch a movie (88 minutes for El Pacino is out), attend a salsa class (at7pm in Mall of Emirates) or I could finish my book, have a swim on the roof, watch my “gossip girl” DVD series and go to bed early. Yes, I like the last option best!
