IKEA was founded by Ingvar Kamprad in 1943 when he was just 17, in his farm Elmtaryd, in the village Agunnaryd, in Sweden. He purchased matches in bulk at Stockholm and retailed it. From match business he moved to furniture in 1950. Today, IKEA has emerged as the world renowned Swedish home furnishing superstore …. 235 Stores in 34 countries and more to come-up in 2007.
The IKEA catalogue, the 2nd largest printed material in the world, is printed in 38 editions, in 17 languages, for 30 countries. It offers new affordable solutions and creative approaches to help inspire home furnishing ideas for better living.
IKEA - Kuwait, the franchise of IKEA of Sweden, was established on 24th April ‘84 by two brothers, Mr. Yacoub Yusif Al-Homaizi and Mr. Jasim Yusif Al-Homaizi, in Shuwaikh, Kuwait. During the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait in August ‘90, the Store had to be closed. After the liberation of Kuwait, it was re-opened on 13th June ‘91. The Store was renovated in ‘95, to give the Shuweikh store a new look.
Over the years IKEA has emerged as the most familiar name in home furnishing in Kuwait.
To provide better services to its valued customers IKEA - Kuwait has now relocated to a new and bigger store, more spacious, in the Avenues Mall which is located in the Al-Rai area, Kuwait “To provide a complete day out for the whole family”.
