About ABB - Saudi Arabia

In 1951, when oil production was beginning to surge, Brown Boveri entered the Saudi Arabian market with the supply of three gas turbines to the Arabian American Oil Company (ARAMCO) and was since then very much involved in the build up of the Kingdom’s infrastructure for Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution, as well as the outstanding Water Pumping Schemes and Industrial Applications. Permanent presence was later established in the 1970s with the organization of the joint venture of contracting companies ACEM ASEA Contracting Co. Ltd. and BBC – Brown Boveri Saudi Arabia Ltd. In 1988 ACEM ASEA Contracting Co. Ltd. changed its name to ABB Contracting Co. Ltd. and BBC – Brown Boveri Saudi Arabia Ltd. The Asea Brown Boveri Holding Company in Zurich (Switzerland), together with its Saudi partners - Mr. Abdullah Al Hobayb and Mr. Ghassan Ibrahim Shaker (later replaced by Mr. Khaled Al Hobayb) -, have in recent years consolidated their activities through the two joint venture companies ABB Electrical Industries Co. Ltd. In the year 2000, a major reorganization in ABB Saudi Arabia witnessed the birth of ABB Automation Co. Ltd. specialized in engineering and manufacturing of industrial automation products & systems; and ABB Service Co. Ltd. specialized in full service and general maintenance support. A new Company, Electrical Materials Center Co. Ltd., (ELEMAC) was also established to be the distributor of ABB equipment. TEMECO Ltd. is now in the field of Power Generation activities representing Alstom Power. The combination of ABB’s more than 100 years of experience and intimate knowledge of customer needs assure that the rapidly developing Saudi economy has access to products and systems, which are developed to suit the environment in Saudi Arabia. With a continuing presence of design, engineering and service resources, ABB can offer customers, products and services with high reliability and dependability.
