About Higher Colleges of Technology

The Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) is a United Arab Emirates (UAE) Federal Government institution of Higher Education. The Higher Colleges were established in August of 1988 to provide technical and professional education to UAE citizens. The HCT today operate eleven colleges: a men's and women's college in each of the cities of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Al Ain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Sharjah, a women's college in Fujairah, and one Centre of Excellence for Applied Research Training (CERT). The number of students in each college varies from 400 in the smaller cities to 1,600 in Dubai. Although the students are segregated by gender, faculty and administrative staff are not. Men and women teach and administer programs at all colleges. There are currently more than 1,000 teaching and non-teaching faculty working at HCT. The vast majority of faculty has at least a Bachelor's Degree or other relevant tertiary qualification and more than half has completed either a Master's or a Doctoral Degree.
