Learn about IRC

About IRC

The International Rescue Committee helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover, and gain control of their future. IRC teams provide health care, infrastructure, learning and economic support to people in 40 countries, with special programs designed for women and children. Every year, the IRC resettles thousands of refugees in 22 U.S. cities. The IRC was founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein.

Vision

The IRC’s public policy and advocacy efforts seek to improve the lives of people affected by persecution, disasters, conflict and marginalization by influencing the policy decisions affecting them, addressing the underlying causes of crises and improving the practice of humanitarian action.

Mission

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. For 80 years, we have offered lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war, persecution or natural disaster. At work today in over 40 countries and 22 U.S. cities, the IRC leads the way from harm to home.
