    About

    The Islamic Development Bank is an international financial institution established in pursuance of the Declaration of Intent issued by the Conference of Finance Ministers of Muslim Countries held in Jeddah in Dhul Q'adah 1393H, corresponding to December 1973. The Inaugural Meeting of the Board of Governors took place in Rajab 1395H, corresponding to July 1975, and the Bank was formally opened on 15 Shawwal 1395H corresponding to 20 October 1975.

    Purpose

    The purpose of the Bank is to foster the economic development and social progress of member countries and Muslim communities individually as well as jointly in accordance with the principles of Shari'ah i.e., Islamic Law.

    Functions

    The functions of the Bank are to participate in equity capital and grant loans for productive projects and enterprises besides providing financial assistance to member countries in other forms for economic and social development. The Bank is also required to establish and operate special funds for specific purposes including a fund for assistance to Muslim communities in non-member countries, in addition to setting up trust funds. The Bank is authorized to accept deposits and to mobilize financial resources through Shari'ah compatible modes. It is also charged with the responsibility of assisting in the promotion of foreign trade especially in capital goods, among member countries; providing technical assistance to member countries; and extending training facilities for personnel engaged in development activities in Muslim countries to conform to the Shari'ah.

    Membership

    The present membership of the Bank consists of 56 countries. The basic condition for membership is that the prospective member country should be a member of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), pay its contribution to the capital of the Bank and be willing to accept such terms and conditions as may be decided upon by the IDB Board of Governors.

    Role Purpose: To independently carry out project cycle  related activities (Identification, Appraisal, Support to Projects implementation, Mid-Term Review and Project Completion Report)  and the management of assigned health sector portfolio in accordance with Bank rules and in close collaboration with internal and external clients. This role also plays a key role in  the development of the Bank Health Sector Policy/strategy and Economic Sector Work (ESW). Key Accountabilities and Activities: * Participate in annual work program and budget preparation activities of the division. * Contribute to the preparation of key strategy papers, new programs and knowledge product development. * Contribute to analytical/economic and sector work (ESW) as well as sector dialogue during Member Country Partnership Strategy (MCPS) and programming missions. * Provide technical input to the development,  review  and monitoring of Key Performance Indicators  (KPIs) of the Health Division  and Core Sector Indicators (CSI) in IDB financed projects in Member Countries  * Contribute to the design, review and implementation of the IDB's policies, procedures and guidelines relating to the  health  sector interventions. * Comply with IDB's policies and guidelines to ensure quality in the operational work of health sector as well as maintaining good working relationships with various clients. * Ensure quality throughout project lifecycle of IDB financed projects. * Provide necessary support to project implementation and prepare Project Implementation Assessment and Support Report (PIASR),Mid Term review Reports  and Project completion Report (PCR). * Monitor project implementation and take corrective measures. * Participate in  Health Sector Portfolio Performance Review (SPPR) and Country Portfolio Performance Review (CPPR). * Participate in Regional Network Meetings (ReNs) Prepare cost-benefit,  socio-economic , financial/economic analyses of the Bank's projects in the health sector. * Contribute to IDB  knowledge repository by documenting best practices and lessons learned. * Share knowledge as subject matter expert related to sector issues. * Ensure the incorporation of best practices in the design of health projects and programs. * Interact and share knowledge and skills with colleagues in the Department and the Operations Complex. * Contribute to the development of  knowledge products. * Play an  active role in Human Development  Community of Practices. * Use innovative approaches in conceptualizing, designing and implementing health projects and programs. * Identify best practices and adapt them to sector projects and programs.

    Role Purpose: To contribute in the development and implementation of Energy sector strategy of the Bank for its focused intervention in member countries. Contributes in the Energy sector policy dialogue during MCPS process with emphasis on development of clean and renewable Energy Sources. Contribute in the preparation and execution of annual operations plan for Energy Sector. Contribute in the identification, appraisal, supervision and administration of IDB finance projects under the Energy & ICT Division. To manage energy projects portfolio according to general policies, principles and goals of IDB and in close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. Key Activities: * Contribute in the dialogue process during preparation of MCPS by providing inputs for country specific Energy related issues with emphasis on development of clean and renewable Energy Sources. * Participate in development of the annual work program and budget of the division. * Contribute to the establishment and review of key performance indicators (KPIs) of the division. * Monitor the implementation of IDB energy sector projects and programs in member countries. * Contribute in the development and implementation of strategies for Energy sector development in member countries * Contribute in ensuring the incorporation of environmental and social safeguards in large Energy projects financed by the Bank. * Comply with IDB's policies and guidelines in the design and implementation of energy sector projects, including environmental and climate change issues. * Identify opportunities for IDB projects in the energy sector in member countries and assess the suitability and fulfilment of sector objectives. * Prepare cost-benefit, socio-economic, financial/economic analyses of the Bank's projects in the energy sector. * Supervise implementation of assigned projects, undertake detailed project review and appraisal and advise executing agencies throughout the project. * Periodically review and process loan and Technical Assistance requests * Lead project appraisal and supervision missions, as assigned by the Division Manager, to monitor field activities and to assess fulfilment of sector objectives. * Prepare project completion reports to comply with project documentation requirements and to provide insights into the achievement of project objectives. * Provide sector insights in country dialogues inside and outside of the Division / Department. * Conduct assigned sector studies required for the development and implementation of sector policy. * Document lessons learned and provide technical guidance to less experiences staff members. * Contribute to training and knowledge sharing initiatives. * Represent IDB in events related to energy sector. * Identify best practices and adapt them to sector projects and programs. * Preparing regular and ad-hock reports on the status of Projects portfolio at Country and Sector level. * Collate and analyse data on energy sector projects and provide recommendations. * Communicate with IDB Governors' offices regarding missions and sector related issues.
