Who we are? Jeeran launched in 2000 with a vision: To make the web relevant to the Arab world by empowering people and giving them the tools to generate their own local content. 2010 marked the next phase in Jeeran’s evolution through the launch of the Jeeran “Places” proposition, a new service that empowers Arab users to rate, review, discuss and discover places in their city. Jeeran “Places” is built on the knowledge that more and more users base their purchase decisions on reviews and recommendations from real people ‐ friends and family. Turning to trusted sources is not new, but the social web has enabled people to refer to entire communities and networks. Jeeran “Places” is intended to facilitate these references, providing Arab users with the tools to connect to each other and to places in their city, basing their decisions on the reviews and recommendations of their local community. Jeeran Amman launched in July 2010, and within a short period showed a marked impact through a surge in traffic and community members, and adoption and engagement by those living in the city. By April 2011 the same localized service will launch in four more cities throughout the region including Jeddah and Riyadh in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.
