Established originally in 1963 as a general trading and contracting firm, SAFWAN Trading & Contracting Company initially represented and sponsored the business Interests and activities of prestigious international companies in the petroleum sector in Kuwait. Of note, initially, were Brown & Root, Inc. and, eventually in the early 1980’s, Reda Pump, both of the USA. These firms were to become involved in the execution of various projects which included a submarine pipeline and gas injection center as well supply installation and commissioning of submersible pumping systems of significant value, for Getty Oil Company and Kuwait Oil Company. With the blossoming Kuwaiti economy, SAFWAN realized potential opportunities in other areas of business and in 1967; SAFWAN formed a new division dedicated to the importation and distribution of pharmaceutical and cosmetic products. This division now represents some of the most highly recognized names in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry. Through the years, SAFWAN developed and has expanded into the additional areas of water and wastewater treatment and highway safety products and construction materials. The Water & Wastewater Treatment Division was formed in 1986 and now represents manufacturers of state-of-the art water treatment systems. The highway Safety and Construction Materials Division is now a major supplier of highway safety products, construction materials, architectural membrane fabrics and architectural canopies. SAFWAN is now comprised of three operating Divisions with a multinational staff of over seventy employees.
