AVIATION OFFICERS PROFILE
UN World Food Programme

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), the world’s frontline food assistance agency, is currently seeking to replenish its pool of qualified candidates for its Aviation Officer Professional Profile.

Within delegated authority, the Aviation Officer will be responsible for the following duties: (These duties are generic and thus not all inclusive nor are all duties carried out by all Aviation Officers):

- Establish, operate and maintain an aviation management structure and system to facilitate the safe, efficient, cost-effective, responsive, client oriented air transport service for the air transportation of personnel and cargo;
- Establish, operate and maintain an aviation management accounting, budget and financial control system;
- Resource, contract and manage personnel, equipment and services for the support of air transport services;
- Implement safety programmes and processes;
- Implement UN regulatory, contractual and quality standards for air transport services;
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

WFP’s core competencies for professionals include action management, communication skills and high standards of ethics and values.

Skills

Education:
Professional Pilot License (i.e. ATPL, CPL, ATC) or Engineering License or Air Traffic Controller License or Flight Dispatcher License, plus a university degree preferably in Logistics and Transport Management, Aviation Engineering, Safety Management, Quality Assurance of Air Traffic Control, or graduation from equivalent civilian or military establishment or military flight/air traffic control training.

Experience:
P2: At least five years with operations in the aviation industry in a field position with at least three years in charge of a transit facility for passenger and cargo handling and movement, load and ramp control and working in cooperation with customs, immigration and airport
authorities.

P3: At least seven years with operations in the aviation industry with at least five years as a line supervisor.

P4: At least ten years experience in the areas described above and experience in external relations and advocacy.

Language:
- Working knowledge (proficiency/level C) of a UN official language, Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish, and
- limited knowledge (intermediate/level B) of another UN official language or WFP’s working language, Portuguese.
- Limited knowledge (intermediate/level B) of English is required under all circumstances.
