Summary
This position’s primary responsibility is to handle the purchasing activities of the company, analyzes and estimates price trends and product availability, inventory usage, control and developing policies and procedures for the purchasing function. Directs and co-ordinates the procurement of goods, supplies and services essential to the operation of the Company (Internal & External).
Tasks / Duties:
Assists the Company Manager in the preparation of the operational budget by providing market prices for goods and services
Plans periodical and year-end physical counts of goods and other inventory items at the warehouse and production plant
Periodically reviews and updates purchasing policies and procedures
Participates in negotiations with suppliers for major purchases of goods, analyzes the bids, if any, and recommends the best vendor to the Company Manager
Directs negotiations with vendors regarding returns, rejections, dispositions and adjustments of purchased goods not meeting specifications
Investigates suppliers, interviews representatives, selects and determines vendors to be placed on the approved vendor list
Directs the maintenance of a comprehensive record system for vendors, requisitions, purchase orders and goods specifications
Trains, counsels and develops subordinates to assure efficient and effective assistance and growth in purchasing activities
Performs analytical review on stock records, ensuring that goods are maintained and distributed properly
Drects the purchasing of stationary items for use throughout the Company, insuring that inventories are maintained and used properly
Communicates with warehouse store keepers at the different sales areas with regards to inventory issues
Co-ordinates with the Sales Manager to identify the slow and non-moving items that could be directed to other sales areas or sold
Keeps the Company Manager informed with regard to major price fluctuations, special offers and inventory issues
Maintains excellent relationship with suppliers
Evaluates the performance of all subordinates and seeks improvement in their capabilities
Reviews supplier quotations and approves or rejects prices, terms, delivery dates or traffic routes, if not in line with the purchasing policies and procedures
Reviews physical count results, identifies and resolves variances
Skills
3 years of practical experience with two years in a supervisory role
Proven achievements and track record.
Familiar with local market techniques and methodology.
Proficiency of English.
Good communication and inter-personal skills.
