Senior Consultant - Tax Services

Job purpose

Your main objective is to generate tax compliance products using general tax knowledge gained from training or education and assistance from more experienced tax professionals. Your client responsibilities:

• Identify ways to increase the value provided to the client.
• Secure and enhance client relationships at the appropriate level and present a favourable impression of the firm.
• Ensure that client's requests are acted upon efficiency and on a timely basis and the engagement team meets the client expectations (eg. perform engagement management activities including billing, scheduling, performance, evaluations, mentoring, managing client expectations, and identifying additional client needs).
• Develop and maintain an appropriate external network of business contacts.
Your people responsibilities:
• Help ensure that team members produce quality work products by providing them on the job training and support team members.
• Help them better understand the practical application of the Tax Compliance Process, enabling tools and tax laws and regulations to their specific engagements.
• Share knowledge and leading best practices with others.

Operational Excellence:
• Demonstrate proficient knowledge of tax laws.
• Manage the Tax Compliance Process by properly assessing scope, adhere to risk management policies and procedures, develop work plans/budgets, set out expectations, determine resource requirements, and supervise engagements to ensure timely delivery of quality Tax products to clients.
• Ensure that sufficient tax audit evidence is gathered and correctly documented to support the tax audit opinion.
• Perform data validation and utilize experience and expertise in solving problems with the conversion of data into a standard format.
• Monitor the day-to-day tax compliance process, identify and resolve issues/problems in Tax Review Memorandum, and tax exposure letters to a high technical standard and presentational quality.
• Review work of team members (where applicable) on a timely basis and in a thorough and constructive manner.
• Arrange for and attend tax inspections. Follow up actively with the tax department and keep the engagement manager informed of the status of inspections.
• On a daily basis you should provide and demonstrate value to clients and meet/exceed the client's expectations.
• Ensure that the engagement manager and partner are informed about important tax or accounting issues on a timely basis.
• Execute appropriate use of electronic working papers, tools and sources of knowledge.
• Identify areas for improvement, including client satisfaction, process and technology.

Skills

We are looking for candidates with the following:
• A qualified accountant - ideally Bachelor's degree in Accounting
• CA, CPA or ACCA or other qualifications will be considered as an advantage.
• 3 - 4 years experience in corporate tax service line in a top 10 firm or extensive knowledge of tax laws gained while working in other accounting firms
• Experience of managing engagements to ensure high quality deliverables are produced on a timely basis and within budget.
• A mature and flexible personality and the ability to work well in teams.
• Experience in a Big Four professional services firm would be an advantage.
