PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Business Anchor is first and foremost a storyteller responsible for providing clear and concise reports after gathering and verifying factual information through interviews, observations, and research. The incumbent must be able to report on all aspects of the business world, including industry trends and developments, particularly as they relate and impact the Middle East; analyze strategies and cultivate insider sources.
DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES: (Essential Functions: Duties and responsibilities noted with bullets are considered to be the essential functions of the job).
•Initiate and conduct original interviews with a wide variety of financial experts and business sources.
•Leverage knowledge of assigned beats to bring relevant and significant story proposals to news meetings.
•Develop stories from interviews with business executives.
•Evaluate/analyze leads and tips to develop story ideas.
•Cultivate and maintain credible business news sources.
•Write scripts and oversee production process to ensure broadcast quality.
•Present live or taped interviews and voice-over reports in studio or field.
•Follow up on previous reported stories for updates.
•Develop original, imaginative and creative ways to tell/show business news stories.
•Coordinate news coverage activities with producers, photographers, editors, and news management.
•Meet daily deadlines in a fast paced environment.
•Deliver breaking business news with accuracy and urgency.
•Edits or assists in editing videos for broadcast.
•Check reports for balance, clarity and objectivity to ensure they are free of bias and advocacy.
•Read and edit business news copy to ensure that slanderous, libelous content are avoided and deleted
•Work quickly and accurately under stress/time constraints o meet deadline.
•Maintain knowledge and understanding of current U.S. and world business events to better inform story reporting.
•Conduct on-line research for difficult story assignments.
•Adapt quickly to changing priorities and breaking news.
•Stay in constant contact with the Assignment desk.
•On set a minimum of 5 minutes prior to business segment.
•Attend industry events, award shows and business conferences.
•The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties and take on other responsibilities as dictated by events and circumstances.
QUALIFICATION/EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
•College degree in Journalism or a related field preferred.
•2-4 year previous experience as business reporter preferred.
•Demonstrate strong news judgment and organizational skills and accurate manner.
•Ability to prioritize and make quick decisions.
•Ability to write clear and concise business news stories.
•Ability to communicate and translate from English to classic Arabic.
•Must be able to demonstrate discretion, maturity and composure especially under pressure.
•Superior story writing and storytelling ability.
•Good creative and editorial judgment. Mastery of journalistic ethics and libel laws.
•Proficient with internet, database and computer assisted reporting techniques.
•Inquisitive and self directed with a strong attention to detail.
•Comfortable on-camera - particularly in live situations.
•Able to work effectively with all levels of management and staff in a professional manner.
•Possess and maintain a valid drivers’ license (preferred) with a driving record acceptable to the company.
•Exercise self-discipline and time-management skills.
•Accommodate flexible hours including nights, weekends, holidays and irregular hours at a moment’s notice.
