    LABORATORY TECHNICIAN (Dammam-Rabigh)

    Job Description

    Basic Functions

    • Sampling, carrying out physical or chemical tests on various types of nonwoven fabrics, chemicals, additives, raw materials used or produced in the plant. Job includes noting results on daily log, notifying Operations Manager of anomalies and maintaining and calibrating lab equipment.

    Organizational Relationships

    • Reports to the Operations Manager on a daily basis.

    • Working relationship with Shift Supervisors, Mechanical Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Production Engineer, Operators, Technicians and as circumstances dictate.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Prepares sample containers, receives and checks samples to predetermined schedule from production and follows up on samples omitted. Takes own samples from on-line production.

    • Carries out various analytical test per standardized analytical methods including sophisticated analyses involving Tensile Strength, pH, Hydrohead and Microscope apparatus, MFI (Melt Flow Index and chromatographs. Sets test parameters on equipment, purges sample containers and manually operates equipment to start test sequence. Reviews print out and notes on daily log sheet, notifying Operations Manager of major anomalies.

    • Collects specially requested samples in the plant and analyses samples as required.

    • Ensures that at all times sufficient stocks of chemicals, equipment and consumable supplies are kept in the Laboratory. Raises appropriate purchase requisition when materials are required, ensures that all chemicals and other consumable are stores in the correct manner and controls the issue and use of such materials.

    • Advises Manager of chemicals and operating supplies required and reviews stock from time to time to follow up or check on consumption.


    • Performs quality control work with regard to the receipt of any necessary raw materials, additives, chemicals, de-mineralized water in the warehouse for use in the plant. Checks samples received from potential suppliers to ensure correct chemical composition and presents written reports on findings. Checks upon receipt of materials that these conform to specific requirements. Periodically checks that materials indicated as ‘in stock’ are located and tested to ensure continued usability. Also carries out ad hoc tests of materials, such as master batches or newly introduced materials, devising methods of testing as necessary.

    • Maintains Laboratory equipment in good working condition by carrying out simple work such as cleaning, changing or mixing standard solutions and lubricants. Highlights corrective action needed on equipment. Carries out calibration of laboratory test equipment by injecting test samples and adjusting settings.

    • Carries out related duties, such as cleaning laboratory instruments, keeping laboratory area in clean and good working condition at all times, wearing appropriate safety clothing and following pre-established safety practices.

    • Responsible for performing duties in support of the Company’s quality process and in compliance with the departments standard operating procedures.

    • Performs assignments in accordance with established procedures and specialized laboratory techniques.

    Communication

    • Regular contacts with production personnel to obtain samples and occasionally to provide test results. Frequent contacts with Purchase to follow-up on requisitions and for clarifications.

    Skills

    Educational Qualifications

    • Completion of Secondary (12 years) education followed by 3 years technical trade training.

    Experience

    • 3-5 years experience in laboratory analysis and testing techniques.

    Special Training / Skill: On the job training and familiarization of materials.
