Job Description
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Producers are responsible for the entire television production. They are the ultimate authority in charge of all production aspects from the planning and writing of the script to the final production and editing. Producers are also responsible for program budgets and organizational matters as well as with aesthetic decisions. This position supervises a team of associate producers, writers, directors and productions assistants.
DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES: (Essential Functions: Duties and responsibilities noted with bullets are considered to be the essential functions of the job).
•Develop program concept and production budget.
•Assign program’s director and approve directing approach, light design, and set design.
•Work with writer on script development and format.
•Supervise and coordinate all preproduction planning.
•Supervise overall production activities and including watching rehearsal for improvements/changes.
•Approve last-minute changes as they arise.
•On live shows help director as needed; on taped shows work with director on which takes are useable.
•Ensure that all additional production details are completed, including graphics, chyrons, etc.
•Provide Control Room with critical information regarding the timing, content and execution of live shots while program is on-air.
•Ability to maintain composure in the control room
•Remain creative and cool under pressure.
•Oversee post-production and approve final edited version.
•Coordinate with promotions department to implement and create show promotion.
OTHER DUTIES:
•Determine show vision and showcase major stories.
•Assign and edit stories to writers on the team.
•Contribute story ideas on a daily, weekly and long-range basis.
•The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties and take on other responsibilities as dictated by events and circumstances.
•Evaluate program to see if it met objectives.
Skills
QUALIFICATION/EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
•Bachelors degree in journalism or broadcast journalism preferred.
•2-3 years experience producing television newscasts.
•Excellent Arabic writing skills.
•Working knowledge and ability to operate Cinegy.
•Ability to thrive in an environment requiring teamwork.
•Solid news judgment.
•Ability to work under intense deadline pressure.
•Exercise self-discipline and time-management skills.
•Sound editorial and creative judgment is essential.
•Must be able to accommodate flexible work schedule to support 24/7 news environment including overnight coverage.
