A third of working respondents in Egypt expect their employers to be definitely hiring in the next three months according to Bayt.com and YouGov surve

The latest Middle East Job Index Survey, conducted by the Middle East’s leading job site, Bayt.com, and research and consulting firm, YouGov, has revealed that63% of the working respondents in Egypt expect their employers to be hiring in the next three months;34% of them saying they will be definitely hiring. The majority of Egypt respondents said that, in the next three months, they will be mostly looking for accountants (19%), secretaries (15%) and HR professionals (14%).

Hiring expectations in Egypt

According to working respondents in Egypt,34% are ‘definitely hiring’ and29% are ‘probably hiring’ in the next three months, while just6% say that they are ‘definitely not hiring’ in the same time period. Focusing on future expectations, seven in10 working respondents in Egypt state that their company will be hiring in a years’ time, with31% ‘definitely hiring’ and39% ‘probably hiring’. On the other hand,6% are ‘definitely not hiring’ and19% ‘don’t know/can’t tell’ their intentions for recruitment in the coming year.

Among those hiring in the next three months in Egypt, nearly half of them (48%) will open positions to fill a maximum of five job roles;24% will be hiring for6-10 jobs. Six out of10 will be looking to hire ‘mid-career candidates with no managerial responsibilities’;41% will be looking for ‘team leaders/supervisors’; while29% will be searching for ‘entry-level candidates with no managerial responsibilities’

More than half of the working respondents in Egypt (53%) claim that, over the last three months, their company has hired new employees;15% say that they had new hires in the last six months.

Roles and experience employers are looking for

Egypt companies are looking for candidates with managerial experience (42%), while35% also look for candidates with experience in sales and marketing. This is followed closely by32% who are looking for candidates with computer skills, and29% with engineering experience.

Desired skills and qualifications

Good communication skills in English and Arabic is the most desired skill by eight in10 companies in Egypt. Working in teams, negotiation skills and the ability to work under pressure are also highly valued skills by54%,51% and49% of working respondents in Egypt, respectively. The overall personality and demeanor of the candidate falls closely at48%.

As for the most sought-after educational qualifications, graduate/postgraduate degrees in Commerce (32%), Engineering (27%) and Business Management (24%) emerge as the most desired academic qualifications when looking for candidates in Egypt.

Industries attracting top talent in Egypt

Respondents living in Egypt claim that ‘banking/finance’ (33%), ‘construction’ (28%), ‘telecommunications’ (28%), ‘oil, gas & petrochemicals’ (24%) and ‘advertising’ (23%) attract and retain the best talents in Egypt.

On another note,26% of working respondents in Egypt believe that their industry is equally as attractive as other industries when it comes to hiring, while24% consider it to be much more attractive. On a national level,26% of Egypt respondents consider their country of residence to have a slightly less attractive job market when compared to other countries in the MENA region.

“It is interesting to see the most popular job roles in the Egypt have changed since our last survey in July, indicating the fluidity of the Egypt market when it comes to employment options,” said Elissavet Vraka, Research Manager, YouGov.

Of the Egypt respondents surveyed,12% work in the private sector industry.24% of private sector employees said they work in a multinational company;18% of them work in a large local company.14% of Egypt respondents are currently not working.

28% of working respondents claimed to be ‘directors or senior managers’;19% ‘junior managers/team leaders’,14% said they were ‘CEO/ President/ Chairman/ Owner/Self-employed’; and14% answered ‘middle managers’.

Data for the Bayt.com Middle East Job Index Survey was collected online between December8,2015 and January21,2016, with a total of1,232 online interviews conducted with respondents from the UAE, KSA, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and Pakistan.
