Word features that are not fully supported in word Starter

Microsoft Word Starter2010 is a simplified version of Word that comes pre-loaded on your computer. Word Starter includes features that are basic to creating and working with documents, but it does not include the rich set of features found in the full version of Word. This article lists the differences in features between Word Starter and the full version of MS Word.

If you find that you need a richer set of features than what Word Starter provides, you can easily upgrade from Word Starter to Word. On the Home tab, click Purchase to visit an online retailer, where you can purchase and download Office right away.

Table of contents Not available to create in Word Starter

If you open a document that contains a table of contents, you can refresh the data, copy and paste items, format the text, or delete the table of contents

Footnotes and endnotes  Not available to create in Word Starter

If you open a document that contains footnotes or endnotes, you can click the footnote or endnote link to jump to the footnote or endnote. You can also cut, copy, or paste the footnote or endnote, and you can format the text.

These files do not open in Word Starter

Files in the following formats:

Quick Access Toolbar

Document protection : You cannot turn document protection on or off. If you open a document that has protection turned on, you can make changes only where you have permission to do so.

Ribbon customizations

Change tracking

Language packs

Sharing : You can share your document by saving it to Windows Live SkyDrive, a network location, or by sending it in e-mail. However, Word Starter does not include a command for sending your document as an Internet fax or for saving your document to a SharePoint site

the Windows 7 Starter Edition is not a different operating system, it's just one kind of Windows 7.
And it's the lowest level edition, so you can upgrade from it to a higher level such as Windows 7 Home Edition.

Microsoft Word Starter is a (teaser) Edition of the Microsoft Office Package, it is a Basic Version of MS Word Professional .
A free pre-installed software to let the user do basic tasks of word processing.
But the full version of Word, called (MS Word) is more advanced feature packed of the MS Office package .
MS Word is a professional version and has more options and added features more than the basic (Word Starter).
Another differing point between the two versions is the price: Word Starter is free of charge, but MS Word ain't , so you must buy the MS Word in order to use it , of course you can try before you buy it, hence the license.
As for the Security, the less vulnerable version is Word Starter, because it has lesser user base and lowest features , so there little chance of malware to target it or the machine running it through another weak security hole.
In general it all depends of course on the Operating System security state, so if the system is more hardened that can lower the security breaches through any weak software points.

Microsoft Word is great and full featured, Starter have the basic and common things.
