The key role for a Product Marketing Manager is to push the boundaries of the products being managed. How is this product sold? Who buys it? What is the typical use? How about a completely different use? Can we leverage product scarcity (maybe because it's a product unique to us) and market demand? How is my product making other's life better? Is there any emotional attachments that can be leveraged? So basically I would say there is a more creative component to the job of product marketing manager than what already stated as the core responsibilities and tasks.

Tasks aside, the most valuable contribution is zeroing in consumer insights and their purchase decision making process in relation to the product category and connecting the dots to their own product. This knowledge will impact significantly the marketing and distribution plan that will eventually lead to sales, and bottomline revenue to the company.
