It's all about accountability, if you are managing the project, then you are accountable for it's delivery, while if you are coordinating it, you are not neccessarily responsible for the outcomes

Primarily the role of project management is the complete management of all stages of the implementation of the project, while the role of coordinator depends on maintaining the workflow within the project

you have a lot of difference between the project management and the p;roject coordination:    Project managers perform a variety of tasks during the life of a project ,Project managers must understand the needs and objectives of a client or project stakeholder and they must understand what is expected to be delivered at the end of a projectThey create schedules for people who work on the project, and maintain working relationships with any vendors, suppliers and partnersbut the project coordination are primarily responsible for ensuring that all project work is operating smoothlyThey talk and work directly with people who are assigned tasks on the projectThey also help resolve issues that arise during work on a project, such as by requesting additional resources to work on a task or helping to reschedule tasks that are taking longer than expected.

Project Management is the Science of managing a Project by a Project Manager using sound principles of management and Process as outlined in guides such as PMBOK.
Project Coordination is a task accomplished by a Project Coordinator who ensures that the project is progressing as expected and provides early warnings to the Project Sponsor.
Project Coordinator is a link between Project and the Sponsor.
This link can be provided by a Project Manager or a Planning Engineer as well depending on the size of the Project and Sponsor's decision.
For a large project or an Enterprise consisting of various projects, it is in the interest of the company to appoint a separate Project Coordinator and let the PM of each Project focus his attention on achieving his project's target cost, schedule and quality.
