Why is it important to write neat code and also commented one?

The habit of writing many things (complex code ) in one line does not help others in understanding and debuging later on....

Once a code is written for an application or some other task it almost always needs improvement or some special features later on. If a code is not a neat one and not well commented it may not be well understood by other programmers who wish to use it or improve it.
