== Preparing your CV - You will either have to fill in a job application form or provide a CV which gives you the chance to sell yourself. If possible devise a standard CV and then tailor it for specific job vacancies - this can often mean the difference between an interview and rejection.

==Update your skills:

-                     Keeping your skills up to date is one of the most important aspects of beating the age barrier so that you can effectively compete with younger applicants. Whatever your line of business, try to ensure that you are not passed over for company training and let it be known that you are keen to take advantage of any training opportunities.

-                     If you don't have a working knowledge of computers, now may be the time to put that right. There are many different courses to choose from including day and evening, distance learning, full time and part time, runs by your local education authority at Adult Education Centers or by private colleges.

 

==Achievements: When applying for jobs, writing letters or attending interviews remember to focus on your achievements - you will probably have done much more than a younger applicant and this could work well in your favor.

-                     Be specific about what you have done and try to give results. For instance, if you regularly organize social functions give the salient details, the budget you worked to, the number of people you organized, the publicity you generated or the money you raised. If you attend committee meetings again use this to demonstrate that you can be an effective member of a team.

 

==Network:Around two thirds of the best opportunities for the over45's come through contacts so it's important to keep in touch with business colleagues. If you have a professional magazine read it to keep in touch with what is happening and who is doing what. Don't turn down opportunities to meet other professionals whatever their age and always be positive about your own career prospects. If you don't believe in yourself you can't expect others to do so.

 

==Look the part: They say you are only as old as you look, so look the part.

-                     Don't apologize or over-compensate for your age but make sure that you look smart and professional.

-                     You don't have to put your age on your CV and there is now a voluntary code in place which has been taken up by90% of recruitment agencies to banish age limits.

 

==Be flexible: Take a job at a lower grade if it means you can get in that way too. Once you are in an organization you can quickly show them what you are made of and what your strengths are. Don't limit your choice either - whilst you may feel that large international companies will offer you the best chance it is more likely that small businesses can offer better prospects for experienced workers.

 

==Be positive: Your experience both at work and at home means that you are less likely to panic in tricky situations and that you will know instinctively what to do.

-                     Loyalty, often deemed an old fashioned value, is much in demand by employers today and once you have found the right job you are much less likely to be scanning the job ads for something better paid.

-                     Reliability is also in your favor - research shows that the46-64 age group takes fewer days off sick than their younger counterparts. 

 

==Succeeding at the interview: If you have got an interview then you have a good chance of getting the job so it's worth spending time preparing for this important meeting

.-                     Don't be worried if the interviewer appears to look much younger than you and don't refer to your age.

-                     Remember the interviewer is on your side and is there to find out why you want the job, what particular skills you have for it and assess how you would fit into the company.

-                     Remember that the interviewer, in addition to learning about your experience to date, will also want to hear about your future aspirations

.-                     This will indicate that you want to succeed further, develop new skills and that you have the necessary drive and determination to succeed

.-                     Find out as much as you can about the company before the interview so that you can show your interest by asking one or two questions. 

 

== Effective Time Management:If you are someone who never seems to have enough time in your life and you feel that you are always chasing your own tail then this simple guide is for you: 

-                    Learninghow to save time and how to spend it effectively, particularly in the world of work, is a key ingredient in our overall performance.

-                    Developing techniques and strategies which help you manage your work time effectively will in turn reduce the pressures on you and give you more time to yourself.

-                    In the office: Whatever your circumstances make sure that your work area is well organized. Materials and equipment that you use often should be close to you, your lighting should be good to avoid headaches and eye strain and ensure that your chair is well designed and doesn't give you backache.

-                    At your desk: clear it up and keep it clear. Try and keep paper off it and develop the knack of concentrating on one thing at a time and doing it well.

-                    Paperwork: When you are writing, try to keep your paper work clear, concise and as short as possible. Remember that some of the best ideas are the simplest and the best way to present them is to put your points in a logical order using presentation skills to good effect. Your aim should be to only handle paper once. 

-                    Communication: Developing positive lines of communication with your colleagues at all levels is essential. Letting them know the information they need to know and vice versa can save enormous amounts of time and energy. Remember to copy the right people into memos and emails and give people a reasonable amount of time to respond. If your company has an internal email system then uses it as much as possible. It provides a fast, efficient and very cost effective method of communication and gets you away from the problems of not being able to contact people. 

-                    Meeting deadlines:One hour of concentrated work is worth four hrs work with interruptions. Let others in your office know that you don't want to be disturbed and if possible arrange for your telephone calls to be diverted. Another useful tip is to block out time in your diary so that you know that time is free, and work in a separate room.

-                    Managing meetings: The art of successful meetings is to work out in advance what the purpose of the meeting is i.e. is it a briefing, is it a negotiation, is it to discuss ideas or a regular committee/department meeting with a set agenda. Before every meeting, ask yourself "Is this meeting really necessary?"

-                    Making time:If you are permanently behind in your work and feel you 'just don't know where the time goes' you could consider keeping a time log for a week so that you can see exactly where and how you are spending your time. You will probably be surprised by what you see and you can use it as the basis to make changes in the way you work to improve your efficiency. 

-                    Planning your day:Using your diary or scheduler as an aid in making a 'to do' list of what you want to achieve and what you have on the next day every evening before you leave work. Establish your priorities in terms of urgency and importance and develop your own system that is comfortable to use and which works for you. Your aim is to achieve as much as possible every day but always remain flexible, so that you can take on unexpected tasks if necessary.

-                    Setting goals and objectives:Working out what you want to achieve, when and by what means will give you something tangible to work towards. Ideally objectives should be as specific as possible, measurable and set within a time frame. Goals are likely to be longer term but just identifying what they are and having them in mind can be both motivating and energizing.

-                    Learning to say no:Effectiveness at work depends as much on knowing what not to do as what to do. Learning not to over-commit yourself and to say no is key. If you are asked to do a piece of work and you know that you will not be able to meet the deadline it is vital that you communicate that fact. Rather than vaguely saying 'I'm not sure' or 'let me think about it' or worse saying nothing at all, explain why you are not able to. Negotiate on timing - say I can't do it today but I would be pleased to do it tomorrow/by the end of the week.

 

== Positive Stress management: One of the best defenses against stress is to have a well- balanced lifestyle backed up by a healthy diet and an idea of the relaxation techniques that work for you. The following techniques are a selection which can be successfully used to relieve tension and anxiety during a difficult situation. They are not difficult and you will be able to use them without anyone else being aware:

·                     Try to identify your own stress triggers

·                     Adopt techniques which work for you - we all cope with stress differently

·                     Be aware of your own symptoms of stress

·                     Accept yourself and don't try to be perfect

·                     Take action to tackle your problems

·                     Look after yourself physically and mentally

It is not good to say that but in most cases you need someone recommend you inside the company you are trying to apply for!!!

if you have some one to recommend you at the same time you should have excellent or good qualification (by the way to have recommend person its not negative point ) also you have to do good at interview.
