Both the currents have their own utilities in their domains which cannot be catered by the other. The DC current empowers most of the electronic circuit and gadgets (that's the reason why we use adapters to charge our phones, laptops, etc i.e to convert the AC source to DC). On the other hand the electrical power is generated and transmitted in the form of  AC current as it is convenient to step up or step down in the various stages of transmission. During transmission of electricity the greatest problem encountered is the I^2R losses. With the help of the properties of AC current the voltage is stepped up and current is stepped down (P=VI) thus countering the I^2R losses significantly. Then again there are device which work on principles of fluctuating or rotating magnetic field which can be can be achieved only by AC current as the DC current is direct in flow and dosen't fluctuate(non sinusoidal) in nature.

For the same voltage, DC is more dangerous than AC. Because of skin effect AC passes only through the surface. So less harmful to human body than the same voltage DC which doesn't have skin effect.

Both AC as well as DC has their own importance. AC power is generated in bulk scale, but DC has limited.

Their importance can be calculate on the basis of their use. For electronic DC power is more important. But for heavy electrical machinery AC is more useful.

In the sense of transmission i think DC transmission is more efficient than AC due to low loss in line, less magnetic effect etc.
