SLA defines the relationships across department, and it is expected to describe the services being provided so it clearly depicts what is anticipated from the services in terms of time and quality, besides it sets boundaries and enhance commitment. so when deciding to set up a SLA one should consider the above mentioned factors and answer tow primary questions:what you are looking to achieve by Setting a SLA? , and why? In my humble opinion I think it is quite beneficial for the organization to set a cross departmental SLA as this will set a clear boundaries and eliminate overlapping and provide a room for continuous improvement.

I feel Service level agreement is required for the other depts but not for all depts.

For example for the Maintenance Dept - it should be having SLA since it will help for the AMC's ,Preventive maintenance etc.

Another example is :-For HR Dept-They should have SLA for the Canteen as well as for the transport management.

Whereas for some Dept this SLA is not required for example :-

1.If there is a one time requirement say example Audit for the finance dept. In that case it is not necessary that you should go only for the SLA in this case you may give one time order .

2.For Machine maintenance if one item is required then it don't make sense to go for SLA for one time order.
