Hi,

Although Server and R2 are Microsoft Windows derived Server Operating Systems. They are quite different when it comes to features.

The main thing that differentiates them would be the Hyper V features that are now available in Server R2.

Another factor would be "performance". Server R2 has expanded when it comes to Clustering, Resource Management etc....

On the Virtualization side, The Server R2 has lot of offer compared to Server. Mainly features like Live Migration, Hyper V Networking features etc....

Other features include switching between server core and gui.

Features on demand is also another important feature.

There are many features, but when it comes to performance and security the above2 are on the top list
