Both forms of energy can be very reliable but the major determining factor is the geography. Solar energy makes more sense in areas that recieve a lot of sunshine through out the year (regions within the Tropics). Wind energy also makes sense in areas where there are strong and regular air flows and low light(outside the Tropics). However this does not mean these enrgies are exclusive to the areas mentioned above. Some wind farms are found within the Tropics as well.

acquisition of 'solar energy' is more beneficial than wind energy in thse areas where average temprature scale is high and wind flow is very rare too. in such areas, sunny days are normally longer than other areas.

When you live in an area where average annual temperature and summer duration is long than winters

From a larg power production point of view you have to admit that the michanic energy provided by wend is way more benificial at the current time, yet, by working on new hypred solar plates we might be able to push the energy production way more and achieve better results than wend.

but remember it is always related to where are you applying this type of production, the power farms you are building are going to coast more on the long run if you are depending on wendmill, or that's what we call them.

for the begest part it is the Amber generated by wend is higher than the one generated by solar cells, BUT, you can always use super capasators for this part of heavy usuage of power!

Personally I will go with solar power for light daily usage, and advice the larg corpertions to invest in wendmills farms.

Acquisition of solar energy will be more beneficial in an area where available wind energy (Wind speed) is less as compared with available solar energy. Considering the factors like yearly solar irradiation, available time of cloud free sky and length of days.

It depends on your geographical area.

For most suburban and rural Areas; solar energy is the best choice for the following reasons.

A solar power system:

  1. Has no moving parts
  2. Has better reliability and a 25 year warnty
  3. Requires less monitoring
  4. Does not require expensive maintenance
  5. Provides more predictable energy output based on BOM and NASA data.
  6. Better value for money in sites with average wind speeds less than 5 meters per second
  7. Is less conspicuous than a wind turbine
  8. Is totally silent in operation
  9. Allows for quicker installation  with less cable required
  10. Is less susceptible to lightning damage
  11. Is less susceptible to high wind damage.
  12. Requires less space in most cases as the panels can be installed on a roof

I assume your question is about electrical power and solar means solar panel only.

Whether we should go for solar or wind depends on many factors such as:

Cost of solar and wind plant to meet the demand (Depends upon wind speed characteristics, Solar radiation characteristics)

Demand fluctuation and supply fluctuation (Pumps vs Household, Required in day only or at a particular time)

Maintenance support availability (solar will be preferred if maintainace is problem)

Area available for installation (in case of smaller area area wise efficiency may be considered rather than cost feasibility)

I will recommend using RETScreen for detail analysis and evaluation of different options.

I am not an expert.  Just by intuition, I think  Its easier to independently setup individual households with solar energy.  I am not sure that this is even done with wind energy except to power one or two devices.  Its probably particularly feasible to provide solar energy to communities where no infrastructure has been developed to provide energy from a central grid.  Especially in climates where there is lots of sunshine!  Like all over Africa for example.
