1. Never run in a restaurant.

2. Always maintain a smiling face.

3. Never point a finger to show a direction.

4. Don’t touch guest’s personal belonging without their consent.

5. While serving or taking with the guest, close contact should be avoided.

6. Give preference to the young and ladies.

7. Don’t fuss with hair and neck or pick at skin blemishes in the restaurant

8. Never chew something or munch in the restaurant.

9. No-Smoking in the restaurant please .

10. Never count tips in the restaurant.

11 . Don’t touch the food with hands. 

12. Don’t whistle/ murmur in the restaurant.

13 . Don’t shout in the restaurant.

14 . Don’t make unnecessary gestures with hands while talking to the guests

15. Stand erect. Don’t lean on the walls, counters or side stations.

17. Don’t fiddle with keys, pens or lighters in the restaurant.

18. Don’t speak poorly about others to the guest; even if it is a competitor .

19. Don’t get familiar with the guest.

23. Always give the guest the right of way

28 . Don’t make excuses if the guest is unhappy about anything. Always apologize.

Etiquette is fundamental to hospitality. As such hotels and restaurants place much significance on waiter etiquette. These are the people who serve guests and are directly responsible for customer satisfaction. Restaurants that maintain excellent service standards understand that etiquette starts not at the service table but in the kitchen, with waiters and kitchen staff working as a well-coordinated team. Waiters, as part of such teams, translate company vision into service and create memorable experiences for guests.

 

Dressing

 

  • Neatly dressed waiters with a fresh and clean appearance are considered to have strong etiquette. How waiters present themselves to guests reflects their respect for themselves, their work and guests. Dressing is not limited to outward appearances but extends to attitude as well. A smiling face, cheery disposition and a friendly attitude form essential parts of waiter etiquette. A positive attitude, indeed, can even help improve the restaurant's kitchen atmosphere and promote a happy experience for guests.

 

Working

 

  • Remaining alert is paramount to a waiter's ability to serve the customer. Using portable audio players, for instance, is a strict violation of waiter etiquette as such practices disrupt concentration, which can dilute service quality. Serving guests promptly and keeping assigned serving stations clean are also critical points. Maintaining positive relations with kitchen staff helps ensures clear communications in the restaurant and effective guest service. Waiters must show a tendency to learn quickly and comprehensively to improve service standards.

 

Serving

 

  • Waiters must observe strict table manners while serving. Standard protocol calls for waiters to serve dishes to ladies first, then proceed to the male diners. Food plates must be placed on the right side of the seated person. Wine and juices must be served from the right of the person because glasses are arranged at the top right of the diner's plate. Serving drinks from the left side by reaching across to the guest's glass is considered rude.

 

Clearing the Table

 

  • How waiters remove dishes and plates from the table after a meal is as important as serving them in the first place. Asking the diner's permission first is also paramount. Waiters must clear the table from the right side of the guest. Traditional etiquette requires waiters to remove all dishes at once after all guests have finished. Modern practice, though, involves waiters clearing plates and dishes as each diner completes the meal. Waiters can follow either method, according to their restaurant's policies.

 

Guest Interaction

 

  • Meeting guests at the table with a smile is basic etiquette, as is a proper greeting using polite language. It is good manners to make eye contact with guests when speaking to them; talking to guests with something in your mouth, like chewing gum, on the other hand, is quite rude. While it may seem harmless, it is considered impolite to give suggestions regarding menu options to guests until they seek your opinion; guests may be knowledgeable enough about the menu, or food in general, to make informed choices, and your suggestions could come off as patronizing or presumptuous. You should wait for your guest to inquire about the bill before delivering it to the table, and, unless it requires change, don't take it back until the party leaves. Thanking the guests on behalf of the restaurant or hotel while delivering the bill is a polite way to leave a good impression.

Waiter's etiquette is the" don'ts " or the basics thing that the waiters should not do inside of the restaurant and infront of the customers. Such as untidy look, murmuring and count the tips infront of the customers...these are some of the exaples of the don'ts that waiters should avoid.
