Technical writing requires directions, instructions and/or explanation on a very specific subject without diversion or tangents from it. An example of this would be an instruction manual. Creative writing is when the writer invents the premise and bases his writing solely on advancing the premise he created; a short story is an example of this where the setting, characters, plot and theme is created by the writer himself
