Apple could be the future HW but hold on..have you heard Linkedin is working on a mega project on HW and NW?

Well the future is unclear with major players investing in cloud.

I feel companies are looking for lesser overhead as you see that IBM is fast embracing MacBooks for its employees and their support model consists of less than 20 engineers for 100,000 systems, so system admins beware.

It would depend on what you use them for. Although, as of now, with how Apple's hardware is removing all the ports but one, and requiring the user to use dongles for various devices, using Apple hardware is looking for be more and more foolish by the day.

Back then you'd be using Microsoft products and OS for work related items, such as spreadsheets and databases, and Apple for artwork and music and the like.

If you're talking about mobile devices, Microsoft has already lost in that regard, there's only Apple's iPhone and the Android OS that are in the market. Both of them have their pros and cons, but they mostly look the same anyway, I've used both, and there's almost no difference aside from the GUI and some quality of life changes.
