A good guide is to execute the coordination responsibilities of a strategic planner. Focus on communications, both planning and execution. It would help to understand PMP duties as well.

The two most critical roles are stakeholder roles and analyisis, and team building/execution. These are foundations for success in strategic planning and launching of projects.
