In order to motivate them I have to 

  • Be one of them 
  • Put a doable goal for them 
  • Let them make a decision with me 
  • Celebrate their achievements even the small one

There should be meeting of minds before acting on the accomplishment of a specific goal(s). First, I should be very clear in giving the set objectives and ensure that the team understands each of their role.  Second, we will agree on the time frame/schedule on when i will be following up (follow through) the status of their accomplishments. I will Give the team the freedom to finish their task with their own initiatives and I will always be there ready to help and mentor. Once results are attained i would celebrate with them and give recognition to each member of the team. Team effort is always effective in attaining goals and objectives.

There are 5 below ways to achieve goals with your team

Clarity – Similar to the specificity from SMART goal-setting, clear goals help immensely with understanding the task at hand, measuring the results, and achieving success.

Challenge – The goal should be difficult and challenging enough to prove motivating, but not so challenging that it’s impossible to achieve. Using the Inverted U method is a good way to test for appropriate challenge levels.

Commitment – Get your teammates to buy into the goal. Involve them in the goal-setting process.

Feedback – Measure your progress and seek advice throughout the pursuit toward the goal.

 

Task complexity – Be careful in adding too much complexity to your goals as complexity can impact morale, productivity, and motivation.
