It is a ratio of production output to what is required to produce it. The measure of productivity is defined as a total output per one unit of a total input. In construction, the output is usually expressed in weight, length, or volume, and the input resource is usually in cost of labor or man-hours. It is valued or considered during project planning stage.

Productivity in relation to Construction stems from the amount of work completed per laborer. I.e. Tiling Mason daily productivity could be5 square meters. Hypothetically, If you have to complete square meters of floor tiles with a deadline of days, you would plan to have tile masons working for9 days with1 day to fix any defects (Dependent on Project ITP, of course).

As such, Productivity rates and manpower/equipment histograms are imperative while planning for a Project.
