A play is a literary art that is written by a playwright.

A Novel is a literary art that is written by a novelist.

The difference in writing technique is that play is based on conversation (with minumum write's voice); whereas a novel is based mostly on narration (with conversation on part).

A play is written and then "enacted". A novel is simply written and then read. They are both ways of telling stories a play being "visual" and a novel relying on the "imagination" of the reader.
