The definition of the communication cycle in simple terms can be said as follows:-

Conveying the thought process of an individual (sender) to anyone other than himself (receiver), through various means of communication in a clear and concise manner, for appropriate action or response from the intended party.

Communication involves the following processes :-

*  Sender has a clear idea / message / views on a topic, situation or a problem after analysis (this is the Thought process stage).

*  Sender conveys it through different mediums such as conversation, meetings, seminars, lectures, electronic media, print media, etc..... to inform the concern (individual or the public) for appropriate response (this is the Medium or the Channel stage).

*   The concern (receiver) listens to the message / views / idea and clearly understands the requirement of the sender (this is the Interpretation process).

*   The receiver transforms the message into something useful or according to the requirements of the sender (this is the Conversion stage)

*   The receiver sends the required (or finished) matter to the sender, in the form of feedback through the appropriate means of communication  (this is the Response stage)

*   The sender acknowledges his acceptance of the final matter.  (This is the End stage of communication).

To summarise, the line of communication involves the following :-

Thought process - Conveyance through appropriate medium or channel - Interpretation - Conversion - Response - Acknowledgement (End stage or Completion of communication)

Communications process begins at the sender. The sender is the person that is originating the message he encodes the message and sends the message across a channel. The receiver on the other hand has to decode the message from the channel (or medium) and receive the message and after understanding the message, he has to give a reply or a feedback back to the sender to ensure that he knows that his message has been received and understood. Now this, is a typical Communication Skills Cycle. So, we have seen the sender originates the message, thereby starting the cycle and also receives the feedback from the receiver and therefore ends the cycle.
