It is not appropriate to constantly use foul language and be loud in the workplace - especially when you are service provider and mostly speak to clients over the phone where they hear the language and then ask what goes on. I am facing this on a daily basis and have raised it to the next level and was told swear words are just made up of letters. It is totally unacceptable - especially when higher up indulges. I am looking for other jobs at the moment - preferably outside of SA in an environment where ethics are still highly regarded. Not even during a rig conversion in the harbour did I hear this amount of cussing and loudness. I have started telling colleagues of how disrespectful it is and even clients hear it and ask me what is going on.
We can just educate the people nothing else.
silence is powerfull. if you keep silent during such outbreaks people indulging in these acts will be frustrated to see you silent and not commenting.
silence is a virtue.
silence will solve the toughest situations.
I suggest that you work with HR to prepare a training program for your staff to highlight the negative impact (personally and professionaly) of this behavior and how to get rid of this habit. Then work with HR to adjust the business conduct ethics to reflect your values and adjust the benefits program to reward achievers and punich failures and implement those changes.
We can just get deep breath and make ourself internaly laugh on such type of fools.
I beleive that the code and conduct should not be just on piece of paper organisations should create a culture so that the employees adhere to it. I always beleive if employees are not treated properly it can be detrimental for the organisation. Employees are the first Customers of any organisation so I totally support your view on this.
Both manager and employee need to be counselled on appropriate behaviour inline with business requirements and policy, which should be covered by the Code of Conduct.
Keep smiling and always interact with your boss and team mates with a smiling face, this will give a positive impression on you in the work environment. When you did something right never mind of foul language (though it's bit difficult) as your potential will be known to your team members and boss at some point of time.
There are certain catagory people who are inferior and to show off their presence and to keep their ego up , they use foul language and shout on others. But a real professional never uses foul language in work environment as he always loves the team and make others to follow and listen to him when he speaks.
Hi All, thanks for your valuable input and will incorporate it to take it further. I tried speaking to the individual and then escalating to the boss. If the boss is of the same example as them - it is difficult.
Very true - it is detrimental to the organisation as customers often hear the loudness and the cuss words come out. I really don't have any good explanation for it when asked why such bad language. I am used to professional and work-orientated environments.
I have endured this for1 yr and5 months. I am now at a point where I am looking for other jobs of which the companies I apply to are known as being professional.
Team communication-conevying the message to them clearly that raising voice in workplaces in not aceptable.
First i MUST make trannie for my Staff to work in any condiations in a proper envrionment , and to be all pack up for each other any time , Second i MUST make my team understand well the reall meaning of communications Skills , which need a lot of eithics to be achive to reach out fot the ideal goal can be applied.
before leaving your current job, use this trick if it really works for you.......
tell your manager that when a person gets old, s/he makes a lot of noise and uses foul language. hope he will never admit that he is an old man. hehehehehehehehehehehehe
