No, diesel engines don't have ignition coil as they work on compression ignition and not on spark ignition as in diesel engines. Glow plugs used in diesel are like small electric heaters which use the mechanism of heating due to resistance during electrification. Glow plugs dont fall under the category of ignition coil mechanism.

No diesel engine does not used ignition coil to ignite the fuel.In the diesel engine ignition is occurred by compression of air.

When we start the engine ,self motor rotates the flywheel of the engine, which rotates the crankshaft (piston in the cylinder),this piston compresses the air to the ignition point of the fuel ,and on that time when compressed air get in touch with the fuel they ignite the fuel.

NO BECAUSE DIESEL ENGINE IS A COMPRESS IGNITION ENGINE AND PETROL ENGINE IS A SPARK IGNITION ENGINE

The ignition occurred after the temperature increase up to the auto ignition temperature of the diesel.

The temperature rises in the compression phase ( the pressure and temperature are proportional).

 Nope

as the Diesel engines have only injectors which require fuel pump to feed these injectors

and not ignition coils as in the petrol engines which generate very high electricity for the spark plugs to create the spark which is required for ignition

and at the diesel engine, the ignition occurs at circumstances of very high pressure and

temperature of the fuel/air mixture get into in each cylinder

so there is no requirements for the spark at the Diesel Engines Such as the Petrol Engines

Diesel engine does not have an ignition coil mechanism. Diesel engine is also known as compression ignition engine. The heat of compression is used to burn fuel that has been injected into the combustion chamber. Glow pugs are also used for preheating the combustion chamber to allow the engine to start during the freezing weather.

In Diesel their is no ignition coil as to petrol engine it is compression

No, they dont have an ignition coil mechanism as it is petrol engine, they rely on compression to ignite the fuel/air mixture.Diesels ignite the fuel due to the heat of compression.

BUT MANY OLDER DIESELS DO HAVE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS that have to do with getting them started up when they are cold. These components consist of electric heaters installed in or near the combustion chamber, which preheat the immediate area so that the engine can be started easily on a cold day.

You can generally forget about starting one of these engines unless the heaters are in good working order and you have a good hot battery.

Diesel engines rely on fuel compression for ignition, but usually also have glowplugs that preheat the combustion chamber to allow starting of the engine in cold weather. Other engines may use a flame, or a heated tube, for ignition

Hector Bandija
by Hector Bandija , Civil Construction Engineer , Self Employed

No because diesel engines dont have ignition coil.

No

Glow plug only for IDI and HDI

IDI will not start without Glow plug
